Intel buys Apple...at least that's the headline Cringley is predicting we'll see sometime in the future. This is truly a "must read" especially for the reasons he presents. It's not about technology but about the power to control the PC market and break the back of Microsoft. It is a compelling vision and one which Intel should consider if it already hasn't.

I agree with those who think Bill & Co. at Microsoft should have spun off the Windows OS as a separate company. Making it smaller, nimble and free of the bureaucracy of Microsoft would bring great strides toward rejuvenating the desktop and delivering features ahead of schedule instead of promising something to customers and then removing them later. Lowered expectations don't sell software.
