Science Friday, June 24, 2005, Hour Two: Thomas Friedman - 'The World is Flat'

I'd heard good things about this book so I got it for my Dad for Father's day. Then this week I saw that Friedman was interviewed on this topic on NPR's Science Friday show. The 45 minute podcast is available and should be well worth the listen.

BBC NEWS | Technology | 'Teleporting' over the internet

More Star Trek technology a reality?? I love the article's mention of nano-dust...kind of reminds me of that "monster" from Lost. Still trying to figure it out but self-organizing nano-bots sounds pretty good.

PBS | I, Cringely . June 9, 2005 - Going for Broke

Intel buys Apple...at least that's the headline Cringley is predicting we'll see sometime in the future. This is truly a "must read" especially for the reasons he presents. It's not about technology but about the power to control the PC market and break the back of Microsoft. It is a compelling vision and one which Intel should consider if it already hasn't.

I agree with those who think Bill & Co. at Microsoft should have spun off the Windows OS as a separate company. Making it smaller, nimble and free of the bureaucracy of Microsoft would bring great strides toward rejuvenating the desktop and delivering features ahead of schedule instead of promising something to customers and then removing them later. Lowered expectations don't sell software.

Athenians and Visigoths: Neil Postman’s Graduation Speech

Joe Carter shares the graduation speech Neil Postman would have made if he had ever been asked, while he was still alive, to speak at graduation. It's short but straight to the point, in typical Postman fashion. Well worth reading.

PS. I'm back after 3 weeks. More on this later....
