Free ride over for VoIP? | CNET News.com
Michigan has gone so far as to begin demanding that Internet service providers, which sell the broadband connections VoIP dialers use, pay the same property taxes charged to telephone companies, a move being battled by most ISPs in the state.
In just a few easy steps, Voice over IP could become a legal battleground which slows the adoption of the technology to a crawl. It seems bizarre that because I send my voice over a broadband connection and not text that I'm now subject to a bunch of regulations. It certainly seems to be the fault of the telco lobby just looking out for themselves. Put them in the same class as the RIAA, loved by all.

Life after Microsoft - One firm's complete conversion to open source

There are so many flaws in this guys thinking, I don't know where to begin. I love the conflation of the Business Software Alliance with Microsoft and how it seems to be Microsoft's problem that he wasn't buying licenses. And he is progressive by not upgrading and never makes support calls...he truly isn't an IT guy (as he admits) and I have no idea why ZDNet would give he face time.

Security Is in the Hand of the User

This is a nice little summary of last week's MS Blaster worm. The most important thing said may be in the title. Security is in the hands of the user. It people would take the time to update their software appropriately or at least take basic security precautions to protect themselves on the 'Net, this wouldn't happen. Explaining why corporate America and public entities got hit, I'm speechless!

Well, vacation is over and I'm back. I had a really great time visiting Highlands, North Carolina, canoeing on Lake Sequoyah and buying used books. I finished reading a few books, enjoyed the mountains and relaxed. I guess the world went on without my attentions to it, especially if you had power. So, be looking for some new info coming your way soon.

Those good old days of Novell Netware are numbered. Novell's purchase of Ximian focuses it on Linux, the other OS. If you've bet your network on Netware, better start reading up on Red Hat or SuSE.
